WORKSHOP OF “HERDED TERRITORIES” AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GIRONA
On September 26th and 27th, we attended to the “Herded Territories” workshop in the framework of extensive livestock. The conferences presented such interesting and necessary topics as: sustainability in the shepherding field, the role of women in the extensive livestock, adaptation in a changing future and the prevention of fire risks.
Maria Josep Broncano, technical manager of the Life-Polyfarming project, took the opportunity to exchange knowledge, problems and experiences with the coordinators of several Life projects. Among them, we talked with Gerardo Moreno, coordinator of Life Regenerate, a project focused on demonstrating that the meadows can be self-sufficient and profitable using the resources of the forest and the livestock. We also talked with the coordinator of the Life Desert-Adapt project, Dr. Fernando Pulido, the project focuses on demonstrating adaptation strategies in the Mediterranean areas with a high risk of desertification due to climate change, its objective is to improve the quality of the land, conserve soil and plants in these areas.
